Controller
Description
Responsible for the effective management of the firm's accounting function and the day-to-day management of the Accounting Department.
Accounting Organization
1. Manage the day-to-day operations and staff in the Accounting Department.
2. Coordinate and supervise the activities and professional development of all staff in the Accounting Department.
3. Recommend hiring, salary increases and bonuses, promotions and terminations of staff to the Chief Financial Officer for final decision.
4. Supervise the Project Coordinators in the operations area of the firm and work with their direct supervisor to coordinate their professional development.
General Accounting and Management Reporting
1. Maintain the general ledger and all accounting practices in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
2. Ensure that the operating budget and capital budget is established in the accounting system following approval by the Executive Committee.
3. Perform the monthly and annual closing process, prepare all management reports and recommend to the Chief Financial Officer for Approval.
4. Manage the annual financial audit and the preparation of the annual financial statement, including the footnotes. Recommend to the Chief Financial Officer for approval.
5. Responsible for the timely and accurate recording and reporting of project costs, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, timely billing and collections and for maintaining the integrity of the accounting system.
6. Oversee the maintenance and functionality of the firm's accounting software.
Policies, Procedures and Controls
1. Work with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and implement standard policies, procedures and controls. Enforce the policies, procedures and controls, directly and through the supervision of the Project Coordinators, in order to protect the assets of the firm.
Corporate Planning
1. Work with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and implement the procedure for developing the operating budget and assist with the development of the operating budget.
2. Work with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and implement the procedure for developing the capital budget and assist with the development of the capital budget.
Business Analysis
1. Analyze the results of operations vs. budget and present findings and recommendations for improvement, as required, to the Chief Financial Officer.
2. Work with the Chief Financial officer to develop and implement a procedure for the periodic review of individual project performance with all shareholders. Actively participate in the monthly review of projects and with the implementation of any agreed-upon corrective action, as required.
Cash Management
1. Ensure the effective implementation of the firm's accounts payable process. Oversee the preparation of the weekly cash requirements report and recommend the resulting cash disbursements to the Chief Financial Officer for approval.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
1. All other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer, President/CEO.
